Give What You Can
Nikela is building fast and is grateful for help with any current project.
Projects You Can Give to Right Now:
[Did you know 'Nikela', pronounced 'niˈɠɛ:la', means 'Give to' in Zulu?]
PROJECT 1. South African "Checking 'Em Out" Tour 2010
Margrit and Russ head for South Africa mid September to get a first hand understanding of the struggles the conservationist face and the strategies that work. Many tours and stops are planned along they way and they include:
Visiting the Daktari Bush School and meeting Michele and Ian. This dedicated couple gives their time and money to create wildlife advocates out of local children and their families.
The African Bird of Prey Sanctuary is of course also on the list and we look forward to watching Shannon perform her magic with her free flights. Ben and Shannon devote their lives to reverse the trends toward raptor extinction.
Meeting with Will who owns and operates both a TV show and Leopard Rescue (the latter on a shoe string) will be another highlight of this trip. Protecting the leopard and other big cats are Will's passion.
Any help to defray the expenses (around $10,000 for airfare, car rental, camping and meals) is much appreciated.
PROJECT 2. Protect and Advocate 2010
By years end our goal is to fund a minimum of two certified projects that protect and advocate.
One Project will be a week long on site wildlife advocacy camp for children, where they get immersed in helping orphaned and injured Duiker (tiny buck), Leopard and other furry and winged wildlife, and leave wildlife advocates. Wildlife advocates who now have an alternative to brutally trapping and beating to death when a leopard or cheetah threatens they goats or sheep of the village.
To continue these camps and to expand their reach to include the families for maximum impact money is needed.
The second Project will focus on rescue and rehab of injured, abused or orphaned wildlife so that the increased demand can be met as most rescue and rehab centers (like the African Bird of Prey Sanctuary, FreeMe, Darwin Primates etc.) get dozens of calls they cannot responed to.
If rescue and rehab is your top priority then please give to Project 2.
PROJECT 3. Web Presence
To create a global community of wildlife lovers who fund private wildlife protection and advocacy efforts in South Africa a simple yet intricate website is needed. If you're familiar with Kiva (micro lenders) or DonorsChoose (USA school supplies) you'll catch a glimpse of the scope of website that's needed.
A basic website to expand on the capabilities of this blog is under construction. However, as we pick up speed the more intricate website will be necessary. Your interest and help is much appreciated.
Please give what you can.
Be sure to note which project (by #) you'd like your contributiion to go towards.
(Of course you can let us use it where needed most too.)
